about the giveaway for the trip to japan.
I have gotten a lot of emails and people interested in the trip. it has been great but there have also been some concerns. It is hard to put those concerns to rest as most people are skeptical by nature and when something sounds too good to be true... I am sure you know the old saying, but honestly it is not as if I get nothing from this venture. advertisement for one is always good, and the more people who search my name the higher it brings me on googles search list. there are also tax benefits and things of that nature. those are al logical but still don't seem to be enough to make people believe that it is real so I will give a huge reason why it would be real. doing a fake giveaway would kill me. publicity is fine and good but bad rumors and such can kill someone who makes their living online like I do. the internet is a fickle thing and one mistake can cost you dearly and while i might not be the sharpest tool in the shed I am no where near fool enough to try and pull that off.

My take on Japan so far
Japan is such a nice place to visit. not just the tourist attractions but the people and normal life as well. i will admit i have spent half my time working but that is just how i am. I will either go out during the day and work at night or vice versa. when i am out i love to watch the people. most of them move through the large crowds at a hectic pace and no matter their age when they are on the train the are glued to their phones or ipad. No matter the time of day you will ...see most the men wearing suits and the kids wearing their school uniforms. mixed within that formality are the women in their 20's and up who wear a barrage of different things from pants to kimonos. The ladies seem both conservative and brash at the same time with their choice of clothing. their blouses reveal very little yet their skirts are often so short that all it would take would be a slight gust of wind.
As i have watched each day i have noticed a quiet dignity that seems to hang in the air. you can be on a crowed subway with more people than you can count and yet there is little conversation. it is a place obsessed with not disturbing the collective, yet you get one alone and talking and you will see that outside that shell of seemingly cold indifference they are much the same as anyone else and by that i mean they are a unique and often interesting person. I have honestly found more enjoyment hanging out in small local bars talking to people then during the day in the crowded tourist places.

Win A Trip To Japan
I am horrible at advertising. It is a fact. Right now youtube is the best way to advertise, so i was thinking what would be the best way to reward my fans and at the same time find a way to advertise. This is what i came up with is his. "Make a youtube video promoting my books or one of my books and send me the link at dwjacks01@yahoo.com. Videos must have a link to my amazon page. (http://tinyurl.com/dwjacksonbooks) The top 10 videos and put their names in a hat to be drawn at random. You can make as many videos as you want, but your name can only be entered into the drawing once. Deadline for the video will be Jan 1st and the winner will be decided Jan 15th. The winner will get 1 round trip ticket to Japan for a week, paid hotel room, and $500 spending money. Trip must be taken within a year of end of contest.)
Things you need to know before you enter: You will need a passport/ or visa. If you dont have one it only costs about 120 dollars in the states. If you live outside of the U.S. you are still eligible as long as it is legal for you in your country. If you are the winner I will need to know what airport you will fly out of (International airport.), your address and name. (This is only if you win so I can book the tickets, so do not send this personal info with you link to the youtube video.) Now if you win and you wish someone else to go in your place that is fine with me. If you are under the age of 18 you must have your parent's permission before entering the contest. Hopefull Goals
Goals for the next month.
1) my new book finally breaks my record and hits above 300 on its ranking, or would it be below... that always confuses me a bit. I have never beat the record that Broken mage sat last year and I really would like to see that.
2) Write at least 150 pages on the next book.
3) get at least 50 emails from people about my giveaway. I am honestly really excited about the japan trip giveaway. It is the first time I did anything like this an really want it to go well. If it goes perfectly then I will sell enough books from the venture to pay for the trip but more importantly it will increase how often I pop up on google. The only downside is that it will be hard to gage this as I will have to compare it to other months with a new release. I always see a little more sales with each new release but this time i will just count all sales over what my avg sales for a release month as contributed by the giveaway. if it does really well then I will have to do another giveaway. I am thinking Australia next time... but not really sure yet. First I will have to find out which other countries have a large vblogger community geared toward tourism and such. Japan was my choice this time because it is a place I have always wanted to go, and thankfully Victor was really helpful in all honesty if not for his blog i would have never had the idea for a trip giveaway in the first place. As always if anyone has any ideas I am more than willing to listen.

a small break
After silver mage is published i will be taking a small break to write another book. A good friend of mine and someone loved by many has died. My heart is heavy knowing i will never again talk to my "nanna," who no matter how bad i felt could always make me smile. I will be writing a book in her memory. i don't know if it will be a short story or a full novel yet but until it is finished i will not work on anything else. I am planning to use the funds from the book to donate to a charity though i do not know which one yet.
TO MY Fans.
the book will still be fantasy but the character will be based after nanna. I ask that you buy he book and read it. i am sure that you have also had someone in your life that influenced you greatly, and this book will remind you of them. so off i now go to work on my little book, to help ease some of the pain i feel at the lose of such a good person. the world has become a bit darker with her passing and i wish to share what little light that she brought to me with others. thank you for supporting me and i hope that you will all remember those loved ones that have shared their light with you.

Almost done
Silver Mage is finished...Well the story is now it goes out to my beta readers and editor. my guess is that it will be out for sale in about 2 weeks. as soon as i get everyone's finished reading and fixes put in i will publish it. sorry for the delay i had a few days were i was sick and then with the kids going back to school it has been hectic not to mention the ending was a bit harder than i thought it would be. Hope you enjoy the story and i will get to work on the next on asap so i can continue to have a book out every 2-3 months. I wish i could do it faster but i am honestly just not that good.

Fun things i found on the internet.
While I am working I always keep something going in the background.
Lately since i am going to Japan in a few months I have been using youtube to learn a bit more about it and here are some interesting vblogers I enjoy watching.

of course these are not the only vbloggers out there who talk about Japan but they are the ones I find most interesting. Givemenabreakman/givemeaflakeman are the same person but he has different kinds of videos on each one. He is a bit older (i am guessing in his 40's) than the others so he has a more...I wouldn't say educated... But inspired view of japan.
Regan is an aussie so his view point is a little different and I enjoy the unique perspective... Not to mention his voice is rather catchy and sticks out more when I am working.
Rachel and Jun are a combo pair with an American wife and a Japanese husband. they are both still relatively young (maybe 20). They like to show more of the things younger visitors might enjoy or talk about and often pull other vbloggers into their shows. Honestly a lot of there shows are really funny making it hard for me to pay attention to work while there on.
Last but far from least is tomoko tomoko. Tomoko is a older Japanese (not in her early twenties but hard for me to say she is over 30 either.) She has many videos with other vbloggers, mainly givemeabreakman but her individual videos I find fun and very informative. She really lets you see a side of japan some tourist don't really see... Aahhhh its hard to explain these tings.

Other than vblogers i will look for other things on youtube but mostly funny skits and stuff from old tv shows like SNL. i also watch anime, the main one right now being hunterxhunter and SAO season 2.

Lately since i am going to Japan in a few months I have been using youtube to learn a bit more about it and here are some interesting vblogers I enjoy watching.

of course these are not the only vbloggers out there who talk about Japan but they are the ones I find most interesting. Givemenabreakman/givemeaflakeman are the same person but he has different kinds of videos on each one. He is a bit older (i am guessing in his 40's) than the others so he has a more...I wouldn't say educated... But inspired view of japan.
Regan is an aussie so his view point is a little different and I enjoy the unique perspective... Not to mention his voice is rather catchy and sticks out more when I am working.
Rachel and Jun are a combo pair with an American wife and a Japanese husband. they are both still relatively young (maybe 20). They like to show more of the things younger visitors might enjoy or talk about and often pull other vbloggers into their shows. Honestly a lot of there shows are really funny making it hard for me to pay attention to work while there on.
Last but far from least is tomoko tomoko. Tomoko is a older Japanese (not in her early twenties but hard for me to say she is over 30 either.) She has many videos with other vbloggers, mainly givemeabreakman but her individual videos I find fun and very informative. She really lets you see a side of japan some tourist don't really see... Aahhhh its hard to explain these tings.
So if you want to learn more about japan check a few of them out.
Other than vblogers i will look for other things on youtube but mostly funny skits and stuff from old tv shows like SNL. i also watch anime, the main one right now being hunterxhunter and SAO season 2.

Silver Mage release date
so far since my last long stay in the hospital I have been good about getting a book out every other month or so but it looks like silver mage will delayed a bit. I still hope to have it out next month but it might not be as early in the month as I would like. First off I am having a bit more trouble with Bren than I would like. Unlike Thad, Bren is more headstrong and a bit more complicated not to mention there are a lot more things going on in this book than the last. Secondly I will be bringing back Beta reads since editing alone doesn't seem to pick up enough of the errors and I want the best product I can produce for you my readers. I will admit some of this is my fault. As it is summer took a few weeks off to take the kids to Florida and to see my sister. Not to mention with the kids home all the time it is harder to write during the day so I have been staying up until 5-6 in the morning and sleeping only a few hours a day so please just wait a bit and it will bout as soon as I can get it done.

Personal-Professional sucess and what it means to me.
First off I have to say thank you to everyone who reads my books and supports me.
Success: What does it really mean. For me it was being able to do what I love for a living. but for a lot of people it means different things and it is usually tied to how much money they make. Personally money has never been a big driving factor in my life. I grew up poor...Really poor but I never considered myself t a disadvantage. It has had some effects on me even to this day. I don't eat much growing up we never had an abundance of food so we only ate enough to keep ourselves fed even today I only eat two small meals a day. I have tried to eat more but honestly I just don't get that hungry. My kids on the other hand have no problem eating large meals though I do my best to keep it healthy food.
Now i ran into a small problem in the past 8 months and that was what to do with the large excess of money that was coming into my house. Two years ago I made at most 2.5k a month and i thought that was good. It was enough to pay for my rent, food, bills with enough to take the kids out every so often but now that it has increased I was at a loss. First i hired a pro editing company to go over my books (for those of you who read those I am sorry they did such a poor job.) I found out that due to the explosion of indie eBooks many companies are just out there looking to make a quick buck and are about as trustworthy as a snake oil salesman. But I have hired two full time employees (college students working on English degrees.) To go over my books and I will also be using beta readers again. (My fans are awesome and it is nice to get firsthand honest feedback.)
College students don't cost a huge amount as their hours are flexible so I wanted to know what else I could do to not only make my books better but also increase my fan base so I have been looking into advertisement. I looked around and decided youtube would be the best choice.
My family thinks I should save up and buy a house and while i plan to buy on Honestly its not a huge thing for me. Mainly I want to travel. as some of you know i love culture, history, and just meeting different kinds of people. Thankfully I can write from anywhere so i plan to do just that, though i still have two kids and the last thing I want is for them to feel neglected so my trips will be limited to one or two a year thankfully though I have a close nit family and am not lacking in people willing to watch the kids for long periods of time. as some of you know my health isn't the best and i frequently spend long bouts in the hospital. so my kids are used to me being gone for weeks at a time though my 10 yo daughter did throw a fit (she is afraid i will get sick and something will happen when i am in Japan later this year.) Love the girl to death but she is a worrywort.
Besides editing. ( which I promise is the first thing on my plate to get fixed.) Translating. (and if any of my fans are native speakers of another language feel more that welcome to email with an offer to translate. I know I have many fans from all corners of the globe, and I hope to get more. if anyone has any ideas of what i can do to increase my audience or quality of my books let me know and i will do my best to work on that. f you have any questions feel free to ask.
And for my fans besides trying to make my books better every time you buy one of my books the money goes to many things besides myself. I now have a scholarship program at the local college here for English majors, i take the local guard unit out to eat, send books to troops stationed oversea. (so far I have sent 4 different groups books. if you are a soldier stationed overseas feel free to contact me and I will see about sending your unit a box of books.) Honestly besides putting back for my trips I still only make about as much as I did when I had a full time job after I pay everything, but I am happy and can not thank my fans enough for supporting me. I hope that in the future that you continue to enjoy my books.

I love America but I think too few of us really have a firm view on the rest of the world outside of the media and I think that we should. At the point i am now i cant afford to do this but some time in the future i hope to make this dream a reality.

Going to Japan
Many of my readers might not know but I study a lot for my books. It might be hard to tell since my grammar isn't the best but I love to study. (though it is mostly culture, psychology, sociology, and history.)
My whole life i have wanted to travel but have never been able to. first i didn't have the money and when i did i didn't have the time. then came the two kids i adopted and i didn't feel right about leaving them until they were fully adjusted to my family. now after the kids have lived with me for 3 years i think it is time i ventured out and do a little traveling,
Oct-Nov i will be in japan. honestly i thought it would be really expensive but beside spending money the flight is the same no matter how far apart the days are. i will be renting an apt by the month so its actually cheaper than a week in a hotel. I will be working while i am there so no worries. I am hoping to incorporate some of Japanese architecture, history, culture and social outlooks in one of my books. So i might be posting some pics and small stories here and there when i am over there.

Goals for the future
I have been putting together many goals for the future. It has taken up a lot of time but i hope to accomplish each of these in my lifetime.
1) get a good group of affordable proofreaders. (many of my fans have offered this but i have been looking around for English grads locally to hire fulltime.)
2) Have a pen and paper game made (this is in the process and hopefully will be finished soon. it has taken a lot of work because i don't know much about them. My mother and father were in the mind that they were evil...I honestly had to hide fantasy books as a kid to read them...that might even be the reason i like to write because most the time i had to makeup my own since i couldn't buy them.)
3) Have a video game made after my books.
4) have a graphic novel or manga series after my books. (I cant draw and since most my resources are in the pen and paper game...editing, an illustrations, and getting the books translated into Spanish i cant afford to hire someone for this but someday....someday.)

i love writing and reading though the latter has taken a backseat as i don't like to read when im working because i fell it influences my personal writing style. Thanks to my fans i get to do what i love but it is a lot of work and i am trying to improve. my only other goals right now are to sell 100K books worldwide and to make it into the top 100 on amazons best seller list overall.

The price of being a writer
When I sit down with a good book I might know the authors name and his other works but I ever gave much thought to what it took to get the book to my hands. If the book was good I was happy if the book was bad I would put it away angrily and pick up another book. Not once in those years did I stop to think how much work and time went into he sheets of paper that I held. Now that I do the same thing I have begun to appreciate books all the more, even the ones I didn't enjoy as much. there are so many elements that go into writing that most people never think about unless thy're missing. time frame, character development, the small pieces of the world the story is set in. I cant speak for every author but I spent countless hours working on those things, even a detail that seems unimportant might later be what everything hinges on. those small details mean I spent just as much time researching as I do writing. blacksmithing, economics, fighting styles, weapon types and uses, names, and so on. some of the research is on what readers like and trends though I don't bank heavily on those its just nice things to know. Because of these things I you will rarely find a moment I am not working in some aspect. even when it looks like I simply sitting there watching tv I am thinking over what will happen next an what might happen far down the line.
When he time comes for me to put pen to paper I rarely sleep. Everything is planned out though sometimes the story does take a side street but in the end it always gets to its destination...so far. I will write 16 hours or more a day until my brain feels like mush. my kids hate it when I hit my working mode because honestly they end up getting very little of my attention. I try to make up for it when I'm in development mode but that doesn't always work.
looking back to when I had a normal 9-5 job I think I was a lot less stressed and had much more free time then I do now even so I wouldn't change my job for anything. I love to write and while sometimes it gets to wear on me I don't think I could find anything else to o that I would enjoy so much. I might loose sleep, a normal life, and my sanity as I fully immerse myself into my created world but I find it enjoyable and fun.
all that said next time you pick up a book stop and think about what all must have went into those sheets of paper. I don't know who said it but here is a saying that catches in my mind from time to time "writing is easy you just have to sit down and bleed."

Forgotten Mage
Forgotten Mage book one in the Timeless mage trilogy and the next story in the reawakening saga is finished and now only has to get through my new editor. I will keep trying editors until I find one that can do a good job. I know its been a slow process but hopefully I will find one soon. Forgoten Mage

Best birthday gift ever
May 3rd is my birthday and this year I received the best gift I have ever gotten. When I published my first book my goal was to sell 10,000 books in a single month and this month I have done that. I would like to say I did it myself but anyone who reads knows that wouldn't be true. The truth is it is because I have such good readers and fans that have supported me. Whenever I get an email or a message from a fan it always makes my day a bit brighter. so to all my fans I thank you for the best birthday gift I have ever had.

what happens when i am bord
ok was bored I admit it but was surfing the web and found a petition on the we the people thing. so decided to check it out a few of them seemed nice but I was more interested in the governments answers to the petitions. So I made one of my own.
(do I believe this will accomplish anything...not really....I just want to see their answer.) I mean what Politian would sign a law into effect that could sentence them to a firing squad instead of a pay raise.

Lets see what we can do.
Ok to everyone who stops by and checks out my blog, Thank you. I am hoping you will go one step farther and pas my book around and see who will get it. This is the first book since broken mage to reach near the 300's in amazon rank and I want to see if I can beat that record but I need your help. Just give it a tweet, a like on facebook or just a casual mention, you wouldn't believe how those small things help get the book out to new readers. Unlike the big publishing companies I cant afford to spend large amounts of money on advertising so I have to wait for word of mouth to travel and it has done well, much better than I could have ever hoped for before. in two months I will be throwing a party for a local guard unit and the sales from this month will foot the bill so please get out there and spread the word. I also plan to start doing book signing at fares and other events throughout the year. I am building a fund for that so. add that to the scholarship I already created and the few other charities I might have stretched myself too thin but I enjoy it. Hope everyone is looking forward to the new book. well enough for this little rant time for me to get back to work.

Short Story Contest
Here is something I am putting together for those of you who are aspiring writers. In may I plan to publish a short novella about 25-30k words. this is short even for me but the main idea is that I plan to add in five short stories around 10k words each belonging to other authors. If you have a fantasy or sci-fi novel and would like to submit it for the book please contact me. the five chosen authors will each receive $100. If this idea goes well then I plan to do two of these anthologies a year and will most likely increase the amount paid to the winning authors. So if you have a friend of family member who likes to write and might have a good short story up in that noggin let them know.

I love Games
Yes I have always been a big fan of games. I don't get to play much anymore as I am usually working. My one dream right now is to see my book turned into a game. Honestly if someone had the skill to do that I would sign over the game rights without asking for a cent. I just want a free copy of the game. Maybe one day my dream will come true and I will be able to take my controller in hand or my iPhone and play as Thad or better yet Avalanche lol.

Get a free complete set of the Reawakening Saga after the last book comes out
I will be doing something else as well starting with my next book. as you know its the last book in the first arc. I haven't thought of a name for the second arch but I will be keeping the Reawakening Saga Banner on all words related to this series. I just like it. but the next book will be around the same length. I am still working on making my books a little longer I want to get around 120000 words but its a work in progress. Master Mage will be 2.99 its first 15 days and will then move up to 3.99 to reward those of you who have followed me throughout the whole series. I am also going to be giving away a full complete set of the signed book to whoever can come up with the best marketing idea by march 1st when the book is planned to go on sale. People around the world.
I spent a good amount of my life as an American soldier. Through it all I never came to love war. The truth is I detest the need for it, even though I understand it. I have been to countless countries and met people for all over the world and all of them have been great people. think the world would be a much nicer place if people stopped focusing on their differences. I thought being different and having different points of views was the point of a society especially a global one. (not talking about child labor or other issues such as that. just the small issues that don't really matter in the large picture. like religion, color, race, who has the bigger gun)
Whenever I see one of my books bought in a place other than the U.S.A. I jump for joy. Canada, Australia, U.K., France, Spain, India, and many others.

Politicians; underworked, overpaid, and and makeing life hard for the enlisted man.
Over the past few years I have watched as our president and politicians continue to strip the military benefits of our soldiers. It seems as if they want to downgrade the military to be the equally of working at McDonalds. As a writer you would think I would have a eloquent way of saying this but honestly I can not think of any polite terms to use. The only thing I can think of as I continue to watch in horror, is that we should toss every politicians who voted for these cuts to be thrown into afgan for a few months with the same pay and befits we have. Let them earn their pay for once in their lives. In the end I am pretty sure it wasn't the soldier who wanted to go to war but the government that made them. If you need to cut some fat why not start with your own oversized salaries, or bring our guys home.

The value of a review
How many people think about reviewing the books they read so others can see what they thought. I always ask that my readers review and a few do. What I never ask is for them to give me a perfect score. What would be the point of a review if it isn't honest. The sad part is that people are more likely to write a bad review than a good one. how often have you been so happy that you went out and wrote a review. on the other hand when something strikes you as bad or wrong the little voice inside us begs to let it be known. Most people are like this its human nature and I don't fault it. we all have those pet peeves that drive us and when one of those are hit by a book, person, or elsewhere it sends a signal to our brain that makes us nuts until we can vent somewhere. I know my books are not perfect they lack a lot though I plan to have that corrected starting in feb when I will be paying a professional editing service to go over my books. it wont be fast as the cost is still staggering but I will get it done as fast as I can funds allowing. Now that my little speech is over my new book went through quite a bit of work not only by me but my beta readers and a real good fan with a college degree who spent countless hours working on it with me. Honestly I think its my best book to date, and I am quite proud of it. if you read it and enjoyed it or even if you didn't please leave a review. I do red every review and email sent to me, and the answers are given by me not some corporate person trying to make you happy. and I know the price went up a dollar and to some that might seem expensive but believe it or not I work 16 hours a day for 45 days straight...didn't even take a day off for Christmas to finish this before the first. and the rise in price is because honestly I need to pay the editing company, but I also promise that every book published in the future will be properly edited and any errors in Master Mage when it comes out please let me know because I will money stop the editing and proofreading company.
